The »INDY-Energy Independent and Energy Efficient Military Camps« project officially concluded on 31 January 2025; however, its outcomes continue to serve as a foundation for numerous new projects and tangible solutions enhancing energy resilience in defence in the future. INDY serves as a role model for how collaboration between industry and respective ministries of defence can drive dual-use innovation to ensure sustainable, efficient military operations for decades.

The partnership of 22 beneficiaries and 9 subcontractors from 13 European countries was engaged in a project coordinated by the Slovenian partner TECES, Green Tech Cluster, with the support of the Slovenian Ministry of Defence (Si MoD). The latter was also responsible for coordinating and directing the involved representatives of 9 Ministries of Defence supporting INDY ambitions.

During its execution, INDY enabled support and knowledge exchange to many other European initiatives and projects, including the Energy Operational Function (EOF) PESCO project, the European Defence Agency’s Consultation Forum for Sustainable Energy in the Defence and Security Sector (CF SEDSS), and Energy and Environment CapTech.

As a symbolic gesture of successful collaboration and encouragement for future endeavours among partners, Matej GAJZER, Managing Director of TECES and INDY Coordinator, presented a symbolic gift from TECES to all project partners, a model of Triglav, Slovenia’s highest mountain, standing at 2,864 metres.

INDY Speakers 2In his speech, Gajzer highlighted its symbolic significance: "Triglav, the highest Slovenian peak, is featured on Slovenia’s national flag and coat of arms, symbolising the country’s natural beauty and the spirit of overcoming the highest and most demanding challenges. Just as climbing Triglav   requires determination, collaboration, and a shared vision, the INDY project embodies these qualities. Through this project, we have shown that even the most complex energy challenges can be addressed      successfully when we work together. I hope this gift finds a place in your offices, reminding you of the INDY project and the spirit of collaboration that made it possible«.

A unique souvenir INDY coin was also designed as an official keepsake and given to all participants at the final event. The coin serves as a token of appreciation for each partner's contributions and as a lasting symbol of the strong cooperation that was fundamental to the project’s success.
